Birchbark Rabbitry

Adoption Policy

Everything you need to know about bringing a Birchbark bunny home — from interest list to pickup day and beyond.

Our Commitment to You

Every rabbit that leaves Birchbark has been hand raised, handled daily by adults and children and loved from birth. We are committed to matching each kit with the right home and supporting you long after pickup day. We are always just a message away.

Interest List

Looking to bring a bunny home? Let us know what you are looking for or if any of our kits in the nesting box caught your eye. Adding yourself to our interest list is free with no deposit required.

Once the waitlist opens for a specific litter we will reach out to interest list members first. For litters still in the nesting box we will contact you as colors and genders develop and become confirmed so you can make an informed decision before committing.

Interest list members are always notified before the waitlist opens to the public — giving you the first opportunity to reserve.

Waitlist & Reservations

Ready to reserve a specific kit? Once a litter is ready and the waitlist opens formally reservations are first come first served. To secure your spot a completed reservation form and a non-refundable $50 deposit via Cash or Venmo is required. Submitting the form alone without a deposit does not hold a kit.

Interest list members will always be notified first when the waitlist opens — giving you a head start before public announcement.

Deposits & Payment

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to formally hold a kit and secure your place on the waitlist. Deposits are transferable to another available kit at our discretion.

The remaining balance is due at pickup. We accept payment via Cash or Venmo.

Health Guarantee

All kits leave Birchbark healthy, active and at appropriate weight for their age. We recommend a veterinary wellness check within 72 hours of bringing your rabbit home.

Our health guarantee covers genetic conditions including malocclusion for 6 months from the date of pickup. This guarantee does not cover illness, injury or conditions resulting from improper care after leaving our rabbitry.

If a health concern arises please contact us first — we are always happy to help troubleshoot before a vet visit is necessary.

Returns

All kits may be returned within one week of pickup for a full refund including deposit. We ask that the rabbit be returned in the same health condition as when they left.

After the one week period our standard rehoming policy applies — please contact us before surrendering to a shelter or rehoming independently and we will always work with you to find a solution.

Pickup & Holding Fee

All rabbits are local pickup only. We do not ship rabbits. Pickup is by private appointment in Hanson, Massachusetts. We ask that you have appropriate housing ready before pickup day.

Kits become available for pickup at 8 weeks of age. Once your kit is ready we will contact you to arrange pickup. Your kit will be held at no additional cost for one week after becoming available.

After the complimentary one week hold a fee of $5 per day applies until pickup is completed. We understand life happens — please communicate with us if you need more time and we will do our best to accommodate.

Vienna Gene Disclosure

Some of our Holland Lops carry the Vienna gene which can produce blue eyed white and Vienna marked kits. We disclose Vienna carrier status for all breeding animals and kits where it can be confirmed.

Buyers intending to breed their rabbit are asked to research Vienna genetics before pairing and to disclose carrier status to any future breeder.

Rehoming Policy

We ask that if you are ever unable to care for your rabbit you contact us before surrendering to a shelter or rehoming independently. We will always work with you to find a solution. In most cases we will take the rabbit back — we would rather have them return to us than go to an unknown situation.

Breeding & Resale

Our kits are sold primarily as pets. If you intend to breed your rabbit please let us know at the time of inquiry so we can discuss appropriate pairings and genetics disclosure. We do not support irresponsible or uninformed breeding.
